Communications Director

The Singularity Institute seeks a director of communications, marketing, and public relations who will concentrate on brand building, strategic public outreach, and media relations.



Responsibilities:

  1. Public relations
    • Strategize public relations strategy to improve visibility.
    • Manage public relations programs from conception to design to implementation to evaluation.
    • Organize and manage special events, including media events.
    • Manage presence on social networking websites.
    • Oversee production of brochures, annual report, and other public-facing documents.
  2. Branding
    • Manage market research projects on the Singularity Institute'€™s brand.
    • Write reports on how to improve the Singularity Institute'€™s branding strategy.
    • Manage projects that will improve the Singularity Institute'€™s brand (changes to the design and wording of websites and public-facing documents, strategic media interactions, etc.).
    • Manage and implement targeted ad campaigns.
  3. Coordination
    • Develop marketing, PR and development budgets with the Director of Development.
    • Recruit new sponsors.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with sponsors.
    • Coordinate mail campaigns.
    • Maintain and expand internet marketing campaigns.
    • Set up site visits by the media as needed.
    • Maintain a master calendar of special events and media events.
    • Maintain branding, media, and contacts files in a manner accessible and comprehensible to others.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • A passion for the Singularity Institute's core mission
  • 5+ years experience in public relations or marketing, at least 2 years in a non-profit setting
  • Direct experience creating, managing and reconciling marketing budgets and forecasts; ability to assess and measure outcomes
  • Experience overseeing successful creative online and offline marketing campaigns
  • Experience planning advertising and promotions campaigns
  • Experience with print and radio media planning and buying
  • Experience with web content management
  • Exceptional marketing copywriting skills
  • Experience with event production
  • Familiarity with corporate sponsorship marketing
  • Familiarity with market research best practices, including fluency in evaluating and using market research and demographic analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, writing skills, and media experience
  • Combined big picture and detail orientation
  • Motivated and energetic
  • Flexible, patient, and adept at multitasking
