Director of Individual Giving
The director of individual giving initiates, plans, and manages individual fundraising. Manage existing major donors, identify and court new donors, for the Singularity Institute and for specific research projects and areas of interest. The Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence is a technology / future-oriented philanthropy with a novel mission. Communicating with our prospective donors requires the mental agility and elementary background knowledge to speak fluently with technically-minded individuals about artificial intelligence.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage 50-100 individual donor prospects
- Outreach to major donor prospects
- Pitch and solicit major gifts
- Identify major gift fundraising opportunities and vehicles
- Work with Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations to achieve monthly fundraising revenue targets
- Organize, plan, and set up one to two donor cultivation events per month
- Help produce a quarterly newsletter for the organization
- Generate annual appeal letters for individual donors
- Keep track of donor activity through fundraising software
Additional Qualifications:
- Creative, organized professional of proven capability and motivation
- Five to ten years of relevant fundraising experience including major gifts and public relations. (We may also consider applicants of suitable talents with founder-level experience in a successful tech startup.)
- Familiar with local nonprofit and technology / IT donors and communities
- Comfortable speaking to technically-minded individuals about basic issues in artificial intelligence
- Genuine commitment to SIAI's mission and ability to articulate the importance of the organization's work
- Significant, demonstrated experience in major gift fundraising and public relations
- Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills; ability to influence and explain
- Experience with eTapestry or other fundraising databases a plus
- Project management and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work individually and as a member of a team; creative energy, self-starting
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced nonprofit setting
