Research Grants
Eligibility
- Research grants are only awarded to individuals for individual projects. SIAI does not award grants to institutions or agencies. Grantees may choose to have SIAI pay grant funds to an institution on behalf of the grantee. If done, the grant will be administered by the institution on behalf of the grantee according to the budget prepared by the grantee and included with the application (subject to revisions approved by SIAI). Applications must specify whether funds requested will be administered through an institution or paid to the grantee directly. Administration of grant funds through an institution does not change the grant's tax status as a grant made to the individual researcher.
- Applications will be considered from postdocs, senior researchers, and advanced doctoral students who are close to completing their degree.
- High school and undergraduate college students are not eligible.
- Current grantees must have completed all requirements of their existing grant, including submission of the final report, before an application for a new project can be accepted. This requirement can be waived if you are applying for a renewal of a currently funded research project. In this situation, please contact SIAI for more information.
- Grant applications that were unsuccessful in a prior funding cycle may be resubmitted only if they are accompanied by a resubmission statement, explaining how the application is different from the prior application and how the referees' comments have been addressed.
- SIAI has no preference to an applicant's project location, institutional or departmental affiliation, country of residence, or nationality.
- Once a grant is awarded, the applicant must sign an agreement outlining all expectations, including requirements and conditions.
